Love, Lessons & Looks In The Time Of Corona #1 : Juliana Ibrahim

Posted on

The first feature of the inaugural series of Coffee&Covet's blog on what life is like in these strange times on our home turf and beyond. The women chosen for these stories are from my own community of women entrepreneurs, designers, artisans and professionals I have come to know via C&C and embrace as friends. The photos were self-taken or roped in Insta hubby/partner/children in home settings as an ongoing effort to be as sustainable yet creative in our approach to fashion as much as possible. Love!

Juliana or 'Jules' as she is called by me, is one of those faces I look for whenever I am working at an exhibition or bazaar event. She is full of wacky humour and such fun energy to be around. We started calling ourselves 'The Penjaja Crew' as a tongue-in-cheek nickname (penjaja means small trader in Bahasa) She literally befits the description of worldly as she is well seasoned in the travel industry and traveled to all corners of the globe AND has an enterprising business of selling all things related to the globe and maps (check her link above for city maps and gorgeous globes etc.) I make a point of stopping by for a quick chat or cuppa with her whenever we are at the same events. In our last chat over the phone, we admitted to missing the buzzing albeit back-breaking bazaar life ; p See you soon in Seremban Jules!

CC : What is your new normal? What does it mean for you?

JI :  As I'm in the travel trade, which is the worst industry to be affected during this difficult time, I am taking the opportunity to appreciate the 'silence'. More kitchen projects, more time spent with the whole family caboodle doing lots of video calls with friends and fams abroad. It's been surprisingly lovely!

CC : Cook in/Food delivery/Eat out? Any favourite dishes you have made? Local small food businesses you support?

JI : Missing the Middle East a lot so we have cooked some funked-up shawarma, salads and aromatic rice.

CC : What is your WFH/SH uniform?

JI : Coffee&Covet during the day of course! And I add statement earrings and jewelry just to get in the mood. We are usually in PJs by 5 pm.

CC : What is your current Netflix binge show?

JI : K-dramas and films. Such a life-changing moment. I have found my zen! Their films/series-making are so spectacular, it's worth paying attention to.

CC : Your 2020 anthem.

JI : Appreciate silence

CC : Where will you go when you can travel across borders again?

JI : Tanzania!
